SSE and SET Cooperate on Index Display

On March 24, 2023, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (hereinafter referred to as SSE) and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (hereinafter referred to as SET) successfully entered into a cooperation on mutual display of index quotations. On the same day, the first 5 index quotations of the SSE and CSI indices, namely SSE Composite Index, SSE 50 Index, CSI 300 Index, SSE Science and Technology Innovation Board 50 Index and CSI Small Cap 500 Index, were officially displayed on the SETTRADE website of the SET. Meanwhile, 3 core index quotations of SET, namely SET Index, SET 50 Index and Thailand Sustainability Investment Index (THIS) were simultaneously launched on the official website of China Securities Index Co., Ltd.

Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in April 2010, the SSE and the SET have been maintaining sound communication and cooperation. In recent years, China has become an important investment destination for Thai investors. As the second largest economy in ASEAN, Thailand is an important trade partner of China. The year 2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the establishment of China-Thailand comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and the SSE and the SET initiated discussions on relevant business cooperation to actively deepen bilateral cooperation in the financial sector. As the first cooperation between the SSE and an ASEAN exchange in indices, this cooperation program on mutual display of index quotations provides an effective channel to enhance mutual understanding between the capital markets of China and Southeast Asia, and is expected to increase the international influence of China's domestic indices.

Over the years, the SSE has constantly pushed forward its international business, proactively served the Belt and Road Initiative and other major national strategies, and kept deepening practical cooperation with capital markets of ASEAN and other countries along the Belt and Road. To date, it has signed MOUs with exchanges in 7 ASEAN countries. In 2018, it established the Shanghai International Centre for Communication and Cooperation between Exchanges with relevant domestic institutions to conduct extensive communication and cooperation with exchanges in ASEAN. Looking forward, under the guidance of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the SSE will step up efforts in its cooperation with ASEAN exchanges on indices, products, market promotion, etc., guide more foreign investors to diversify their allocation of Chinese assets, and effectively promote the high-standard institutional two-way opening up of China's capital market.
