SSE Releases Revised Implementation Measures for Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect Business

In order to continue optimizing the connectivity mechanism and further expand the scope of stocks for the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, with the approval of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) today issues the newly revised Implementation Measures of Shanghai Stock Exchange for the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect Business (the “Implementation Measures” for short), which shall come into effect starting from February 1, 2021.

The Implementation Measures have been revised mainly in two aspects: first, the eligibility requirements have been clarified for the Shanghai Stock Connect investors to trade the shares on the SSE STAR Market, as the STAR Market-listed shares will only be available for trading via the Shanghai Stock Connect to institutional professional investors, as defined by rules in Hong Kong; second, the H shares of the A+H companies listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) are included in the Hong Kong Stock Connect under the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.

In addition, starting from February 1, the STAR Market-listed shares that are constituent stocks of the SSE 180 Index or the SSE 380 Index, or are the A-shares of A + H companies, will be officially included in the Shanghai Stock Connect; the H shares of the A + H companies listed on the STAR Market and the H shares of the A + H companies listed on the SZSE will also be officially included in the Hong Kong Stock Connect.

The SSE STAR Market has been operating stably for more than a year, and has become an important part of China's capital market. As a significant initiative in the opening up of China’s capital market, the inclusion of the STAR Market-listed shares in the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect will not only expand the investment scope of the connectivity mechanism and provide overseas investors with more investment targets, but also introduce more overseas institutional investors to the STAR Market and further improve the investor structure and the level of internationalization of China’s capital market.

Going forward, the SSE will continue to optimize and improve the connectivity mechanism, attract foreign capital to invest in the A-share market, and promote the two-way opening-up of China's capital market at high standards.
