Securities Times | STAR 50 Set for a Material Adjustment, Effective from September 14

A new round of adjustments to the STAR 50 and other STAR Market indexes is set to take place.

On August 28, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and China Securities Index jointly announced changes to the constituent stocks of the STAR 50 and several other STAR Market indexes. The changes will take effect after the market closes on September 11, 2026 (trading effective from September 14, 2026).

The STAR 50 Index will see five constituents replaced, with Raytron Technology, Huafeng Technology, E-Town Semiconductor Technology, Insta360, and SJSemi to be added. Meanwhile, the STAR 100 Index will undergo a 10-constituent adjustment, adding names including JPT, Everbright Photonics, and Cathay Biotech.

The reshuffle will further cement the representative position of the STAR Market's broad-based indexes. Following the adjustments, the STAR 50 and the STAR 100 will have aggregate market capitalization of RMB 5.9 trillion and RMB 2.6 trillion, respectively. Combined, the two indexes will cover 54% of the STAR Market's total, up 1.3% from before the reshuffle.

This year marks the sixth anniversary of the launch of the STAR 50, the inaugural index tracking the STAR Market. Over the past six years, the STAR Market's index ecosystem has grown increasingly mature, evolving into a "5+21+8" multi-tiered system that covers the entirety of the STAR Market's capitalization and industrial chains.

The 5 broad-based indexes—STAR Composite, STAR Price, STAR 50, STAR 100, and STAR 200—cover large-, mid- and small-cap stocks as well as the STAR Market as a whole; the 21 thematic indexes focus on key sectors such as chips and AI; and the 8 strategy indexes highlight enterprises with high R&D input and robust growth, among other features.

The STAR Market's bond and multi-asset index offerings have also continued to expand. This year witnessed the roll-out of the STAR Market's first convertible bond index, along with its first batch of multi-asset indexes featuring a constant allocation between STAR Market equities and bonds, markedly broadening the range of index products available to investors.

Currently, more than 300 funds in China and overseas track STAR Market indexes, with combined assets of approximately RMB 380 billion. Funds tracking the STAR 50 account for more than RMB 170 billion, making it the third-largest broad-based index product category in China and the largest single-market ETF category. Among thematic indexes, products tracking the STAR Chip Index have also pulled in nearly RMB 80 billion, with assets up more than 40% this year alone.
