On September 30, 2019, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) holds an opening ceremony of the World Investor Week 2019. Jiang Feng, SSE President, Que Bo, SSE Executive Vice President, Huang Yong, Vice General Manager of China Securities Investor Services Co., Ltd., SSE members, and investor representatives jointly sound the gong to launch the activities for the week.
World Investor Week, a global initiative sponsored by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) in 2016, aims to enhance the awareness of the market participants towards the significance of investor education and protection and show good practices of securities regulatory agencies worldwide about investor education and protection. This year, the 3rd World Investor Week attracts an array of securities regulatory agencies and stock exchanges from 87 countries or regions, 8 international or regional organizations and investors’ associations. Noticeably, the IOSCO and the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) firstly invite all the stock exchanges worldwide to sound gongs in the week, in a bid to further popularize financial literacy and elevate the global influence of World Investor Week.
Under the unified deployment of the Investor Protection Bureau of the China Securities Regulatory Bureau (CSRC), the SSE began to participate in activities of World Investor Week last year. During holidays of the National Day of 2018, audio investor education programs with a theme of “Learn before Invest” were released, which received good market feedbacks. This year, in response to some major work items including the work of launching the SSE STAR Market and piloting the registration-based IPO System, the SSE will release a program related to the SSE STAR Market for the World Investor Week from October 1 to 6, and it will publicize knowledge about the SSE STAR Market to the public, remind them of investment risks, advocate rational investment and improve investors’ self-protection ability in vivid and interesting ways (cartoon, micro-film, rap and audio book) on the SSE Investor Education WeChat Account and the SSE Investor Education Website.
Organizing the activities of World Investor Week is a useful practice of the SSE to initiatively spread the voice of China and positively show the Chinese experience in investor education and protection on the international platform under the backdrop that the capital markets worldwide attach more importance to investor education and protection. Next, the SSE will continue to implement the deployments of the CSRC on investor protection, explore new ideas and ways of investor education and services, provide professional, high-efficient and smart investor services and improve the sense of gain of investors in the capital market.
